Day 1: Marrakech to Dades Valley

We begin our five-day desert trip from Marrakech around 8:30 AM, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. We’ll stop for panoramic photos and visit a women’s argan oil cooperative to learn about this precious product. Next, we explore the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site and filming location for productions like Gladiator and Game of Thrones.

After lunch, we continue to Ouarzazate, the “Gateway to the Desert,” before traveling through the fragrant Valley of Roses (in season) and the Skoura oasis, home to the well-preserved Amridil Kasbah. Our day ends in the dramatic Dades Valley, where we’ll enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at a local hotel.

Day 2: Dades Valley to Merzouga Desert

After breakfast, we depart for the Sahara. Our route takes us through the stunning limestone cliffs of the Todra Gorges, where we’ll stop for a walk and lunch. Continuing onwards, the landscape transforms as we approach the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi near Merzouga.

Upon arrival, enjoy a welcome tea before embarking on a classic camel trek into the dunes. Witness a breathtaking desert sunset before arriving at a luxury desert camp set in an authentic, secluded location. The evening features a traditional Berber dinner under the stars, accompanied by local music. Spend the night in a well-appointed tent amidst the serene sands.

Day 3: Exploration of the Merzouga Region

Wake early to witness a magnificent desert sunrise, followed by breakfast at the camp. Your driver-guide will meet you to begin a full day of exploration. Discover desert landscapes, visiting an old eyeliner (kohl) mine and fossil sites. You’ll have the unique opportunity to meet nomadic families in their tents and learn about their traditional lifestyle.

We then visit Khamlia village, where the local Gnawa community—descended from Sub-Saharan Africa—will welcome you with mint tea and a captivating performance of spiritual Gnawa music and dance. After lunch, we take a walk through a palm grove and visit the Hassi Labied Oasis. The day concludes with dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel or riad in the Merzouga area.

Day 4: Merzouga to Ouarzazate via the Draa Valley

After breakfast, we begin our journey back towards Ouarzazate. We’ll travel through the breathtaking Draa Valley, famous for one of Morocco’s longest palm groves, and cross the Anti-Atlas Mountains.

We’ll make several scenic stops, including at Nekoub village and the Ait Saouen Mountain Pass, to admire the views and capture photos. We arrive in Ouarzazate in the late afternoon for dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel or riad.

Day 5: Ouarzazate to Marrakech via the Atlas Mountains

Following breakfast, we depart Ouarzazate and head back towards Marrakech via a different route through the High Atlas Mountains. Our main stop is at the historic Kasbah Telouet, a once-glorious and strategically important fortress, offering a glimpse into a bygone era.

After lunch in a local village, we continue our scenic drive, winding through traditional Berber settlements and stunning mountain scenery. We arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon, marking the end of our comprehensive five-day desert tour.
