Welcome to our 3-day desert tour from Fes to the beautiful Merzouga desert, exploring Morocco’s landscapes and cultures. Traverse the middle Atlas Mountains, explore Berber villages, and relish the lush Ziz Valley (palm groves).
Nights are spent in comfort near the Erg Chebbi dunes, with days filled with 4×4 adventures, nomadic visits, and mesmerizing sunsets.
The journey culminates in a camel trek, an unforgettable desert camp experience, and a scenic return to Fes. This tailor-made tour promises an unforgettable fusion of cultural exploration and thrilling escapades across Morocco’s diverse and contrasted areas.
After breakfast at 8 a.m., we'll start our journey to Ifrane, often called the Switzerland of Morocco. We'll pass through hills with cork oak and giant cedar forests, where a few Barbary apes live.
We'll stop to take pictures and feed the monkeys. Later, we'll cross a tranquil pass in the Middle Atlas, catching the first scenes of impressive southern architecture. For lunch, we'll head to Midelt, passing through a plain in the desert.
The dramatic peaks of the High Atlas will create a spectacular backdrop. Crossing Tizi-n-Talghemt, we'll descend into a desert plain along the Ziz palm groves. Heading south to Erfoud, an oasis with over six million palm trees, we'll pass many ksours (fortified villages).
Our journey marks the transition to the desert, and upon reaching Merzouga village, we'll be welcomed with mint tea. After some relaxation, you can hike in the sand dunes to catch the first sunset.
We'll spend the first night in a hotel next to the dunes in Merzouga Erg Chebbi. If time allows, we might explore the non-touristic Rissani Souk, offering a glimpse into the real life and traditional items of the local people.
Today's exploration takes us deeper into the Erg Chebbi dunes and rocky desert. We'll visit Khamlia, a small village with a rich history—once home to former slaves from Subsahian counties who have now embraced Berber culture.
Here, they share their vibrant Gnaoua music, and we'll have the chance to listen to and enjoy this art of music. Our journey continues through unexpected places like Mirdani and M'fis, where small villages and houses dot the dry landscapes far from Merzouga town.
We'll also connect with nomads living in the "Hamadas," sharing a cup of tea as we learn about their lifestyle. Afterward, we'll off-road back to Khamlia, known for hosting the Dakar Rally in 2006.
Arriving around noon, we'll serve Berber pizza for lunch before returning to the hotel for a brief rest. Later, we'll prepare for a camel trek adventure, followed by a night in a desert camp, complete with Berber drums, music, and a delicious dinner.
In the early morning, you'll wake up to stroll towards the dunes surrounding the camp, relishing another breathtaking sunrise amidst the desert's stunning backdrop. Following this, a delicious breakfast at the camp awaits you.
After refreshing with a shower, our journey back to Fes will start. Our route includes a visit to Rissani Market, boasting the largest and liveliest desert souk and offering insights into local daily life, shopping, and traditional crafts.
Continuing through Erfoud and along the picturesque Ziz Valley, our next stop is Midelt, known as the apple city of Morocco, where we'll have lunch. Our drive then takes us across the Middle Atlas Mountains to Ifrane town, a brief stop for rest.
After an hour and a half, we'll arrive in Fes, dropping you off at your hotel or Riad. This marks the conclusion of our 3-day desert tour from Fes to the Erg Chebbi Merzouga desert
