Day 1: Casablanca – Rabat – Meknes – Fes
The first day of our trip we left Casablanca for Fez. The road to Fez takes us along a beautiful stretch of farmland where olives, cereals, vegetables and grapes are grown. Before arriving in Fez, we will visit Meknes and Volubilis. Volubilis is the view of the famous Roman ruins that remain from the southernmost outpost of the Roman Empire. Meknes is the site of the first Arab dynasty created by Moulay Ismail and has The Madrasa Bou Inania and Bab Mansour, the gateway to the Moulay Ismail Palace. This brings us to Henri es-Souani, the horse stable and the barns. Upstairs there is a garden and a rooftop cafeteria with a great view of the city.
Day 2: Fez guided tour
After breakfast, we will begin our visit of “the oldest Medina in the world” with a local tour guide. We will tour the Medina with its “souks” (markets), stopping at the door of the Royal Palace, the Karouine Mosque and the 9th century University. We will also visit the tomb of the founder of the city “Moulay Idriss II”. Lunch will be held in one of the traditional restaurants of the old Medina. After lunch we will continue our tour to visit the Fountain of Nejjarine, the old Harem Garden and the Batha Museum. On the way back to the hotel, we will stop to enjoy a panoramic view of the city.
Day 3: Fez – Midelet – Merzouga
In the morning we will go to the mountains to a region known as Imouzzer, which is covered by forests of cedar, juniper and cork oak. The area is known for having abundant wildlife and we can see many types of birds, wild boars and barbary apes on our panoramic tour. Then, the road will begin to climb the mountains of the Middle Atlas, where we can see the slopes dotted by the tents and the herds of nomadic Berber goats that call this rugged region home. After late lunch in Midelt, we continue along mountain roads overlooking the broad Oued Ziz. Passing Kasbahs and palm groves, we pass through the adobe city of Er-Rachidia and arrive at the end of the afternoon to Merzouga, a city on the outskirts of the Sahara desert where we will spend the night.
Day 4: tour of Erg Chebbi in 4×4 – camel ride and night in desert camp
In the morning, we begin our tour through the dunes of Erg Chebbi. Also, we will visit a Berber house and listen to Gnawa music; originally from Ghana and Sudan. We will visit some deserted mines, Berber nomads and palm tree oases. For lunch we will return to Merzouga. After relaxing for a while we will go to the camels who are waiting to take us on an adventure in the sand dunes. We will spend the night in a camp equipped with drum music in the middle of the Sahara, which is a great opportunity to take beautiful pictures of sunset and sunrise. When we arrive at the camp, we climb the high dunes to watch the sunset and spend the night in nomadic tents.
Day 5: Merzouga – Ouarzazate
After watching the sunrise we return to Merzouga. Afterwards, will have the opportunity to shower and have a delicious breakfast. Then we begin our trip back to Ouarzazate. On the way, we visit the Berber shops where you can buy souvenirs such as fossils, carpets, lamps, leather … We arrive in Ouarzazate in the afternoon and spend the night in a hotel.
Day 6: Ouarzazate – Marrakech
Leaving Ouarzazate in the morning, we will have another opportunity to visit Ait Ben Haddou for lunch and tour this world heritage site. This famous 11th-century Kasbah was used as a backdrop for more than 20 films, including the famous Gladiator. After lunch, we will start our trip back to Marrakech through Tizi-n-Tichka and arrive in Marrakech at night.
Day 7: Marrakech
A full day tour of Marrakech. We will visit Menara, a pool surrounded by flower beds that function as an irrigation system for the surrounded fields. The tour will cover several impressive places: the Koutoubia Mosque, the Majorelle Gardens, the Bahia Palace and the Dar Si Said Palace jewelry museum. The optional lunch will be in the Medina followed by a walk through the colorful souks of Marrakech. We will enjoy a drink at sunset overlooking the exciting Djemaa El Fna square from the terrace of a coffee, dinner and night at the hotel.
